The new 78,000 square-foot Stennis Emergency Operations Center officially opened today in a ceremony involving Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, NASA officials from around the country, leaders from the National Weather Service, and officials from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
At the core of the new state-of-the-art facility is NVision's All-Hazards Network or "HazNet" which monitors threats to Stennis of any kind from weather to fires to criminal activity and shares that information in real-time with other NASA facilities including Headquarters in Washington D.C. HazNet adheres to the Incident Command System required by the Department of Homeland Security.
The current installation supports Stennis, NASA Headquarters, and the Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana. NVision team members spent the day at the new EOC providing demonstrations to visitors showing how HazNet protect Stennis and coordinates crisis action with other facilities nationwide.
In the following news video clip about the ribbon cutting from local TV station WLOX you can see HazNet on the touchtable and mirrored LCD screen at 00:49 and again at 1:02.
