NVision Solutions, a leader in GIS-based technologies, and Taimerica Management Company, a leading economic development company, have joined together in a strategic alliance to create TaiMap, a Web-based decision support system that enhances a community's ability to conduct economic development on behalf of its members.
TaiMap integrates GIS, database, and Internet technologies with property values, geospatial selection criteria, and user-defined preferences to provide unprecedented economic development tools via the World Wide Web. Communities gain a technological advantage and prominent Internet presence that increases their attraction to key parties such as site selectors, property developers, businesses, and industries.
"What makes TaiMap unique is it has been designed for site selection by people who have experience with site selection," said Ed Bee, President of Taimerica. "This gives it unique features [advantages] which present communities with opportunities to compete for investments."
TaiMap improves a community's competitive edge in economic development through the use of sophisticated, Web-based technology developed in partnership with NASA Stennis Space Center's Technology Transfer Program.
"The development of TaiMap is a prime example of entrepreneurs applying government-funded technology in a cross-cutting fashion for the benefit of various market segments," said John Bailey, NASA Technology Development and Transfer Office Dual-Use Program manager. "This is an excellent example of how NASA and industry can partner to develop a NASA-needed technology while at the same time help fulfill a commercial marketplace need."
TaiMap provides an easy-to-understand and easy-to-use interface that enables users to conduct advanced site selection analysis using datasets that are not commonly available to users without advanced skill in geospatial analysis. TaiMap provides the ability for users to browse a community's properties using a Web browser any time of the day, 365 days a year, from any location in the world with access to the Internet raising the visibility and profile of a community. Additionally, users can get directions and maps to sites through email or even over a PDA. Users can also query and view a community's demographics and site parameters for various buildings and sites.
"TaiMap provides a tool for real-time analysis of economic and demographic data for enhancing the facility site selection process. This real-time decision support tool integrates multiple sources of disparate information to enable more effective decision-making," said Tom Stanley, project manager within NASA's Applied Sciences Directorate at SSC.
TaiMap provides economic development research equivalent to having a real-time site assessment team. TaiMap makes high-tech satellite imagery and high resolution aerial photography map use possible via the Internet. The maps are automatically updated with every change made to the database making it easier and cheaper to maintain.
"NVision Solutions has built its reputation on skillfully applying geospatial technologies to everyday problems," said Socorro Harvey, President/CEO of NVision Solutions. "Our partnership with Taimerica Management Company provided us with a deep understanding of the problems faced by economic developers and thus we were able to develop a better solution."
The flexibility and versatility of TaiMap along with the information it provides are unmatched in the marketplace. With all of its combined features, TaiMap will improve the marketability of a community, outpacing the current competition by using cutting-edge technology to provide an everyday, useful tool for communities looking to boost their presence.
